Spain boss Luis Enrique believes the national side will only benefit from Álvaro Morata’s move to Atlético Madrid.

Morata joined Diego Simeone’s side in January after enduring a torrid two-year spell at Chelsea which saw him become a figure of fun after a host of embarrassing misses.

But Luis Enrique, who started the 26-year-old in their game against Norway last weekend, has insisted that Morata is already a better player for leaving the Premier League.

“To be honest I see Morata as far better now than when he used to arrive here as a Chelsea player,” Enrique told reporters.

“He now has more self-confidence and he has always been a great player for us, but now he is more decisive in his play.

“For example, when keeping the ball at the end of the match, he did that with confidence.

“He had many chances and he was where he had to be and he was not lucky enough on Saturday but he produced a great performance, and it was his best match for us so far.”

La Roja travel to Malta on Tuesday for their second Euro 2020 qualifier.
