Milan midfielder Lucas Paquetá enjoyed a very good debut campaign in Serie A, jumping straight into the starting XI after officially joining from Brazilian side Flamengo in the January window.

Ahead of the Copa America, which kicks off next Friday, the 21-year-old knows that he’s still improving as a player and vowed to keep working hard despite the loss of manager Gennaro Gattuso.

“I know I can give more. I know my potential and I know of Tite’s confidence in me. I’m happy with what I’ve shown but I want to give more.

“Whether you like it or not, football in Italy is a bit more tactical, a bit more off-the-ball. And with the help of Gattuso, I was able to have a good adaptation, to understand the different tasks.

“At Flamengo, I had other tasks. But the way we play here in the national team, this is the position where I feel more comfortable playing [as a trequartista].

“Working with him was a wonderful experience for me and he gave me full support, helping me in adapting.

“What he does in training, in the locker, the way he talks to you and motivates you is indescribable.”

Paquetá made 17 appearances under Gattuso, scoring a goal and adding three assists.
