Gustavo Henrique equalised in the 75th minute for Santos after Lucas Leiva’s sixth-minute opener paced Palmeiras.
Verdão had plenty of chances to control the match, but blew clear chances and suffered a draw, dropping to seventh place in the Brasileirão standings after Cruzeiro won their match 3-1 over América-MG. A win would have put Palmeiras just five points behind leaders Flamengo, who dropped their contest 1-0 to São Paulo last night.
The 14-time capped Brazilian midfielder got things started off early with a well-placed finish in the bottom corner.
After a plethora of opportunities and goal-line clearances, Palmeiras were finally penalised for their lack of finishing. Santos had a dangerous set piece on the edge of the area that saw the ball bounce around the box, hit the crossbar, and eventually find the head of Gustavo Henrique, who calmly placed the ball into the empty net.
