Liverpool's best ever XI ... The second forward 💥 | OneFootball

With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Liverpool’s all-time XI.

Yesterday we chose our first forward. Today we’re choosing the second.

Here are the nominees …

3rd – Sadio Mané

Liverpool’s constant pursuit of Southampton players took them to Sadio Mané in the summer of 2016, and he has probably been the best import from the south coast.

The Senegalese forward arrived for a fee of £34 million and revitalised a Liverpool side desperately lacking pace.

Mané has improved season-after-season since his arrival which has coincided with the club following that trajectory.

77 goals in 164 appearances so far for the Reds, which has helped bring home a sixth Champions League and inevitably will seal the 19th league title.

2nd – Fernando Torres

Liverpool fans fell in love with ‘El Niño’ when he arrived from Atlético Madrid in 2007. Their hearts were broken when he left to join rivals Chelsea four years later.

Before then there were plenty of happy times for Fernando Torres at Anfield.

Torres formed a lethal understanding with Steven Gerrard and as a result became one of the most clinical strikers ever witnessed on Merseyside.

Somehow, despite Torres playing in a side including Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, the Spainard never won a trophy in his time at Liverpool.

81 goals in 142 appearances is not to be sniffed at though.

And the winner is … Ian Rush

It was only right that Liverpool’s all-time top goalscorer made it into the best XI.

Liverpool paid a record fee of £300,000 for a teenager to sign Ian Rush from Chester in 1980. There was no looking back for the Welsh international from there. Well, except for the time he spent a year at Juventus before returning to Anfield.

Rush scored 346 goals in his two separate spells at the club.

If that wasn’t enough to etch his name in Liverpool folklore, scoring four goals in a Merseyside Derby in 1982 helped, as well as scoring a brace against Everton to win the 1989 FA Cup.

Liverpool have had some remarkable forwards down the years, so to see Rush so far ahead in the goalscorers list shows just how incredible his time at the club was.

His eye for goal helped the club win five league titles, three FA Cups and two European Cups.
