Liverpool are getting ready to raid Southampton for the seventh time in five years as they hunt for Simon Mignolet’s replacement.
Mignolet looks set to leave Anfield this summer having fallen behind Alisson in the Reds pecking order.
The Belgian is on the hunt for more regular first team football and as such, Jürgen Klopp’s side are on the hunt for a suitable number two.
The Mirror say that the man Klopp wants is Alex McCarthy.
McCarthy impressed at St Mary’s last season, stepping in and replacing Fraser Forster during his lengthy spell on the sidelines but then losing his place to Angus Gunn.
It’s claimed that McCarthy would be interested in a switch to Merseyside with Saints looking for a fee of around €15m.
The Southampton to Liverpool path is a well-trodden one, with the likes of Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Vigil van Dijk all joining from the south coast.
