Lionel Messi looks unlikely to play in Argentina’s friendly next month against Morocco – costing his national side €440,000.

The South Americans were due to be paid €970,000 for playing in Rabat on March 26 but only on the condition that Messi plays in the match.

If the Barcelona superstar is missing then that feee drops to €530,000.

And now, according to a report in the Mirror on Tuesday, Messi is likely to be absent for the game with his international future continuing to be up in the air.

The Ballon d’Or winner has not played for his country since they were knocked out of the World Cup by France last summer.

Messi has still not confirmed whether he has officially retired from international football, with new Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni hoping to be able to call on the forward for this year’s Copa America
