Hamza Choudhury has admitted that the Leicester squad are “scared to celebrate” thanks to the introduction of VAR to the Premier League.

The Video Assistant Referee was out in force at the weekend as the Foxes saw three goals disallowed against Southampton, eventually going down 2-1 to Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

And in a stinging rebuke, Choudhury has claimed that the extra official is taking the passion out of the game.

“I don’t think many players like it. It takes away the emotions,” he told the Leicester Mercury.

“You see Jonny score an equaliser in the 89th minute and he’s scared to celebrate!

“Even if it’s not offside he can’t celebrate – it takes a lot away from the game.

“A few of the boys have spoken about it and we don’t enjoy it. There are two big VAR decisions in the second half and people are going down yet there is only five minutes added on at the end of the game, which is confusing.

“There’s confusion about how it all works but sometimes it goes for you and sometimes it goes against you, so we’ll just get on with it.”

The east Midlands outfit are still in third position in the Premier League despite that defeat and face Burnley next.
