Leicester are optimistic about their chances of tying James Maddison and Çağlar Söyüncü to new contracts.

According to the Athletic, steps have already been taken to seal the futures of the pair.

The pair have been integral to the Foxes’ fine form this season and are already attracting interest from elsewhere.

Maddison has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. His current deal already runs to 2023, though, and Leicester want him to commit to new terms. The midfielder has 12 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League since the start of last season.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is said to consider Maddison integral to the team. Recent reports said the Leicester boss is adamant he needs Maddison to stay if the team are to compete in the Champions League next season.

Söyüncü is seen as similarly important and has not missed a minute in the Premier League yet this season.

His running deal also goes until 2023 but Leicester are taking no risks and want to be in as strong a position as possible if the players are targeted by so-called bigger clubs.

Arsenal were in talks to sign Söyüncü last summer and have since been linked with the theTurkish defender again, as have Manchester City.
