Leicester City are plotting a move to sign Ryan Bertrand from Southampton as a replacement for left-back Ben Chilwell.
Reports in the Daily Mail state that Brendan Rodgers is eyeing up the 30-year-old to replace Chilwell, who has been strongly linked with a move to one of Bertrand’s former clubs, Chelsea.
Chilwell, 23, has had an impressive season which has seen him nail down his spot in the England team ahead of Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
His form, which has helped The Foxes strengthen a grip on a top-four position in the Premier League, has attracted the attention of Frank Lampard.
The move to Stamford Bridge looks likely to happen in the summer with Lampard focusing on bringing in a striker this month, the Mail also report.
It’s believed that Rodgers will then turn to Bertrand, who he has worked with before during Rodgers’ time as a youth coach at Chelsea and in charge of Reading.
Bertrand has made 19 appearances for England and was sent off against Leicester earlier this season during that remarkable 9-0 thumping at St Mary’s Stadium.
