According to a report in the Roman newspaper Il Tempo, scammers sent Lazio false bank details by e-mail pretending to be Feyenoord representatives.

Currently, the Romans still owe Feyenoord the outstanding amount of €2m for the commitment of de Vrij.

The report goes on to say that Lazio initially did not recognise the fraud case and realised that Feyenoord had not received the payment after it was too late.

At first, it had not been possible to understand the flow of money since it had been diverted. Meanwhile, the investigating authorities are said to have found it on a Dutch account.

The 26-year-old de Vrij moved to Rome in 2014 but will leave the club next summer.
