It is not the most surprising news in the world, but Lassana Diarra has left Paris Saint-Germain.

French outlet L’Equipe report that Diarra actually agreed to the mutual termination of his contract on 8 February and though there has not yet been any official word from PSG, the midfielder will not play for the club again.

The 33-year-old former Arsenal, Chelsea and Real Madrid man moved to the Parc des Princes from Emirati club Al Jazira in January 2018, signing a one-and-a-half year contract.

But the former French international made a total of just 19 appearances for the club, only four of which came this season, and he hasn’t featured since a 5-0 win over Amiens on 20 October.

The January arrival of Leandro Paredes effectively spelled the natural end of Diarra’s PSG career and though his contract wasn’t officially due to expire until June, he is now a free agent.

It will be interesting to see where, if anywhere, his epic football journey takes him next.
