The Academia remain top of the league with a 1-0 win over Lanús on Sunday.

Racing Club defeated the Lanús on the road thanks to a well-taken strike from Jonatan Cristaldo in the second half.

Perhaps their recent elimination from Copa Libertadores was a blessing in disguise as Racing are now free to focus on their domestic campaign.

In the 57th minute, Lanús goalkeeper Guillermo Sara hit a wayward clearance that Augusto Solari was able to intercept in midfield. Solari then drove forward and fed Cristaldo, whose first-time shot scuffed under Sara on its way in.

The home team showed glimpses in the attack but cannot afford to give away the ball so cheaply from the defensive third. Similar high-profile gaffes like Sara’s distribution, certainly won’t help Lanús climb up the table.

The win leaves Racing as the sole leader of the Superliga Argentina, two points clear of Atlético Tucumán and three above Boca Juniors, after Matchday 5. By contrast, Lanús are wallowing down in 24th place with just two points from their first five league matches.
