LaLiga president Javier Tebas has confirmed that the league authorities are still determined to play a game abroad but admit that it may now take place in 2020, not 2019.

Girona’s ‘home’ game with Barcelona in January was originally scheduled to take place in Miami but came in for vociferous criticism from almost everyone in the game.

Fifa, Uefa, the Spanish FA and the Players’ Union have all gone public with their criticism of the idea, but Tebas has reiterated once again his desire to move a domestic match to the US.

“We’ve filed a claim and are waiting for an answer,” he told Marca.

“If I get to talk to [Barcelona president Josep] Bartomeu I’m sure it’s one of the matters we’ll review”.

“The plan is to ensure that if the game doesn’t go ahead next year that it does the following.

“We have a right to stage the game there and will fight in order to do so”.
