With head coach Niko Kovac unwilling to play Philippe Coutinho with other key Bayern Munich players, it looks like the Brazilian will not be playing with Thomas Muller anytime soon.

With Kovac refusing to play his two attacking midfielders at the same time, it looks like Coutinho will continue to not play alongside the former World Cup champion.

“Muller and Coutinho together in the 10 role would be too attacking. We need a good balance,” Kovac said. “Never say never, but right now I’d lower the probability.”

Coutinho returned to fitness during the week to play 83 minutes in Bayern’s 3-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

He was replaced by Muller in the closing stages in a substitution, where the 30-year-old scored in stoppage time.

Coutinho has had a rocky start to his Bayern career, making three appearances in the league, but has only made one start and has failed to score or assist.
