The Bavarians went four games without a win before their trip to Wolfsburg on Saturday, before a brace from Robert Lewandowski secured all three points.

Kimmich acknowledges that Dortmund deserve to be on top spot but insists there is still a long way to go before drawing conclusions.

“Borussia Dortmund are doing well,” he told AZ. “They’re playing very attractive football and are correctly placed where they are in the table.

“But, we we’ve had just eight matchdays. There are still 26 matchdays times three. There are still 78 points in the pot; there’s a long time left.

“I know from my own experience that you come under pressure when you’re on top. We’ll see how things look in two, three, or four weeks.

“It’s important that we win our games because by the winter break, we want to be on top again.”
