Kieran Trippier is ready for an emotional reunion with Burnley this weekend.

The Tottenham defender left the Clarets for Spurs in 2015 but still shares a special relationship with Sean Dyche.

“He helped me a lot,” Trippier said in an interview with the Burnley Express.

“I was still going out when I was younger – drinking – and I wasn’t looking after myself properly. He came in and sorted it all out.

“We were close when I was at Burnley and I would love to play for him again one day.

“We usually talk once every two weeks, just to keep each other updated on things. We’ve always stayed in contact, we’ve always had that kind of relationship.

“We’ve probably become even closer since I left.”

Dyche was in charge of Trippier for three seasons and the pair won promotion to the Premier League together in 2014.

A year on, Burnley were relegated and Trippier left for north London. He’s now a full-fledged England international, a wing-back who scored in a World Cup semi-final. But Turf Moor still has a special place in his heart.

“My career has totally changed. Burnley helped me get to where I am and I’ll never forget that.

“I’ll always be thankful to them. It would be nice to think that I could play for Burnley [again] one day.”

Trippier is expected to start when he returns to Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
