Juventus appear to be in pole position to sign 16-year-old Genoa sensation Pietro Pellegri, according to reports in Italy.

Calciomercato claim the Bianconeri are keeping a close eye on the young striker and could even make a move for him in the January transfer window.

Pellegri has so far made just nine senior appearances for the Rossoblu, scoring three goals, but a number of top European clubs are thought to be keeping tabs on his progress, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, having failed in negotiations to sign him last summer, Inter are understood to have cooled their interest in the Italy U-19 international, while AC Milan’s ongoing Financial Fair Play wrangle with UEFA means they are unlikely to be in a position to make any big signings any time soon.

Juve would therefore appear to be Pellegri’s most likely destination should he depart the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, but the Genoese won’t let him go without a fight.

Club president Enrico Preziosi is reportedly keen to keep hold of the starlet for at least another season, and won’t do business for a penny less than €40 million.

An exorbitant sum of money or a small price to pay for Italy’s next star striker? Time will tell.
