Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has welcomed back coach Pepijn Lijnders to the first-team set-up at Anfield.

The 35-year-old Dutchman left Merseyside in January to take charge of NEC Nijmegen in the second tier of his homeland but returns having been dismissed after failing to get the club promoted to the Eredivisie.

Klopp is delighted to have Lijnders back in the fold and told Liverpool’s official website: “It’s good. It’s very, very good. We sent him away for half a year to get very important experience and to have him back now feels just fantastic.

“When he came in the building, everybody was really delighted about that and was really happy about it.

“He’s a fantastic person and a fantastic coach, so it’s really important that we have him back and I’m really looking forward to working together with him.”

Lijnders began his coaching career with PSV Eindhoven in 2002 before a seven-year spell at Porto ahead of his switch to the Reds in 2014.
