Schalke are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Juan Bernat, with the Spaniard going into the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena.

The 25-year-old has spent four years with the Bavarians but has so far failed to truly establish himself as a first team regular.

Last season he started just 11 times in the Bundesliga becoming an understudy to David Alaba at left-back.

And Tuttosport are suggesting on Tuesday that the former Valencia is considering his options with Schalke believed to be keen on his services.

The Italian sports daily claims that Bayern are unlikely to offer Bernat an extension on his current contract, which expires next summer – and will therefore look to sell during this window.

There’s so far no suggestion as to what kind of price Niko Kovač’s men will hope to sell for.
