Manchester United manager José Mourinho risks further upsetting his players after he reportedly told them they have to train at 4pm on Christmas Day.

The Red Devils are currently sitting in sixth position in the Premier League and host Huddersfield on Boxing Day.

The players had hoped to spend Christmas evening with their families and loved one, however The Sun have claimed that Mourinho has ordered the squad into the Carrington training ground that afternoon.

The team will train as normal before going to the Lowry Hotel in central Manchester to eat and then spend the night together.

An unnamed source was quoted as saying: “Under Sir Alex, the players used to train first thing on Christmas Day and then go home and spend time with their family and enjoy a festive dinner.

“But this year there’s not going to be much fun for them.

“They’ll probably have some pasta pre training and then spend Christmas Day evening alone in their rooms at the Lowry.”

Former boss Louis van Gaal – a known disciplinarian – used to give the players Christmas Day off, as to his predecessor David Moyes.

United play David Wagner’s side on December 26 before hosting Bournemouth on December 30 and then travelling to Newcastle on January 2.
