Sunderland defender Jordan Willis believes his side have a point to prove this weekend when they face Gillingham in the first round of the FA Cup.
The Black Cats reached the EFL Cup round-of-16 by defeating Accrington Stanley and Premier League duo Burnley and Sheffield United before falling to fellow League One side Oxford United.
Now, Willis expects Sunderland to not only take the competition seriously, but come away with a much-needed win.
“You expect to see hard work, resilience and they are also a team with a lot of quality,” he said when asked about their opponents.
“We’ve got to make sure we are on our game and come away with the right result.”
Following the match, Sunderland will have to get ready to face Scunthorpe in a must-win EFL Trophy clash.
