Jordan Jones has already effectively missed the first half of the season after his reckless red-card challenge on Celtic’s Moritz Bauer in their only loss of the Premiership season.

After being out for three months, it appeared that the Northern Ireland international could make an appearance on the bench for this Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final against their Old Firm rivals.

However, ahead of their mid-week showdown with Aberdeen, manager Steven Gerrard revealed that Jones has picked up a fresh setback that could cause him to miss out on the big day.

“We’ve got a couple of bumps and bruises from the weekend that we’re managing but I think we’ll be ok and have everyone available [for Aberdeen].

“Jordan Jones has had a wee little setback. He’s got a bit of a tight quad, it’s only small, it’ll only be a few days but it’ll set him back maybe a game or two.”

Jones arrived on a free transfer from Kilmarnock over the summer and made 10 appearances prior to his injury.
