England has motivated players and Jordan Henderson is in direct competition with Tottenham’s Eric Dier for the holding midfield role.
The Liverpool midfielder spoke to media on Wednesday about vying for places and maintaining camaraderie within the England camp.
“It’s not just me and him fighting for places, it’s the whole team,” he said.
“We’ve been kicking each other in training! Nah, I’m joking.
“We get on well. I get on well with Eric. He’s a great lad, he’s a fantastic player.”
Henderson says that competition is fierce but friendly, saying “It is about the 23 at the end of the day and if you’re going to progress through the tournament you need everyone.
“There’s some fantastic players within the squad and everybody wants to play, of course.”
