Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that he has ‘lumps’ on his leg from treatment on a persistent thigh injury.

After a series of muscular issues, Shelvey has resorted to having shockwave therapy twice a day so he can keep playing.

The 27-year-old undergoes the treatment before and after training every day in order to continue for the Magpies.

“I’ve still got the lumps in my leg but while it’s still fine, I’m going to keep training and keep playing,” Shelvey told the club’s official website, per Chronicle Live.

“I think it’s used to treat kidney stones or something like that.

“It’s like a gun that goes onto your leg. It’s painful when being done. You have to just grin and bear it, I suppose.”

Shelvey netted a stunner against Manchester City at the weekend and has won a first team spot under Steve Bruce this season.
