Tyrone Mings became Aston Villa’s starting centre-back as soon as he was loaned from Bournemouth on the last day of the January window and hasn’t reliquished the role since.

Since the 26-year-old arrived, Villa have only lost three times in 17 games and team-mate John McGinn hopes his side can sign him to a permanent deal if they’re able to win next Monday’s final.

“Tyrone has been different class since he joined in January,” said McGinn.

“It took us ages to get him! He is a colossus at the back.

“I just don’t know how he does not get a game for Bournemouth.

“If we can keep hold of Ty in the Premier League, if we get there, it would be brilliant for the club.”

Aston Villa will face Derby County at Wembley on Monday, 27 May in the Championship play-off final.
