Wolves player of the season Joao Moutinho has claimed that his side will do all they can next season to win a trophy.

The Molineux outfit impressed everyone in their first season back in the Premier League – finishing seventh and qualifying for next term’s Europa League.

But it was in the FA Cup that they came closest to lifting a trophy, losing in extra time to Watford in the semi-final.

It means the east Midlands outfit have gone over a half century without silverware, and the Portugal international has insisted that now is the time to change that fact.

“I think we need to think bigger, to dream bigger,” said Moutinho.

“That’s what we want, the club wants to be better. That’s what I want, all my team-mates want, to be better and do all we can to win something.

“This year was very good, but we try to better next year.”

Moutinho also has a Ligue 1 winners medal from his time with Monaco, who Wolves signed him from last summer for €8m – a bargain in the eyes of the vast majority given the state of the transfer market.

On why he came to Molineux, he added: “I was told it was a big project when they contacted me, and I accepted because it’s a club who wants to be better and bigger.

“I like this challenge, to help a club to be better and that’s what I came here to do, to help the team, to help the club, do what I can to make this club better.”

Moutinho has been included in Portugal’s squad for this summer’s Nations League, where they will take on Switzerland in the semi-final before playing Netherlands or England in the inaugural final.
