German national team boss Joachim Löw has questioned whether Alexander Nübel has made the right decision in joining Bayern Munich.
Nübel is widely considered to be the next big thing in goalkeeping and is tipped to succeed Manuel Neuer for Die Mannschaft.
It was confirmed that the 23-year-old will leave Schalke and sign for the Bavarian giants in the summer, but with Neuer ahead of him, Löw has openly admitted that the switch to the Allianz Arena could curtail his burgeoning career.
“Basically, I am a supporter of young players getting as much playing time as possible. That way they can develop better,” Low said on Tuesday at the New Year’s reception of the German Football League (DFL).
“If a player is 20 or 21 and sits on the bench for two or three years, I don’t know if that’s useful.”
