Jetro Willems has revealed his ambition to stay at Newcastle beyond the end of this season.
Willems is currently on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt with the Magpies having an option to sign the 25-year-old permanently in the summer.
The Netherlands international has been one of Steve Bruce’s leading performers so far this term and Willems is hopeful that he can remain in the north east for the long-term.
“I’m not so concerned about it at the moment,” he told the Newcastle Chronicle. “But if I keep on going, I won’t give Newcastle a choice.”
When the interviewer noted that he was referring to Newcastle as “us” and it seemed as if he had already made his choice about whether he wanted to stay, he said: “Yes, that’s actually right!”
“I am fitter. The intensity here is much higher than in the Bundesliga, I think – and that suits me.”
Willems has started 12 times in all competitions so far this season, scoring twice and assisting a further three times.
