Jetro Willems is hopeful that he hasn’t played his last game for Newcastle despite the loanee suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Willems joined Steve Bruce’s side last summer on a year-long deal and started his St James’ Park career well.
The 25-year-old had started 18 Premier League games before going down with ligament damage against Chelsea in January.
That saw Willems time at Newcastle come to an end, but the Netherlands international has admitted that he would love to return to the north east next term.
“I didn’t speak to anyone about it,” he told the Chronicle.
“The main thing is not my future. Now I’m just focusing on my rehab. I’m not busy with clubs or seeing what’s next. We will see in the next months what happens –they haven’t spoken with me yet.
“Of course I would love to speak to Newcastle. I don’t want this to be my final time at the club. Come back next year? Why not?”
