Earlier this season, LaLiga president Javier Tebas signed a 15-year deal with sports entertainment firm Relevant to take at least one Liga game to the United States.

The first of these matches is set to be Girona’s clash with the Blaugrana on January 26, however there has been widespread opposition to the plans.

Fifa, Uefa, the Spanish FA and the Players’ Union have all stated they are totally against the idea of taking domestic matches Stateside.

And that was backed up by Real Madrid, who issued a formal letter to LaLiga yesterday claiming that the plan could jeopardise the integrity of the competition.

Tebas though, is adamant the game between the Catalan rivals is going ahead in Florida.

“It was what I predicted,” Tebas briefly answered when quizzed about Madrid’s letter at an event on Wednesday evening.

“Of course, it will take place.”
