James Rodríguez’s time at Bayern Munich seems set to come to an end this summer.

The Bavarian club can purchase him permanently from Real Madrid for a fee of €42m.

Fussball.news report that they are unlikely to do so given that both parties appear unwilling to extend the stay.

After a good first season at Bayern under Carlo Ancelotti, Rodríguez has struggled to replicate it under Niko Kovač.

Being benched for the 5-0 win over Dortmund was the latest example of how the duo simply haven’t clicked together.

Hernan Ospina, father of his ex-wife Daniela and Napoli goalkeeper David, believes he is keen on an Ancelotti reunion in Italy.

“My daughter told me he has a great relationship with Ancelotti and wants to work with him again,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“I think that he wants to play in Italy someday, particularly for a big club like Napoli.”

However, opinion is even divided on the former Monaco man at boardroom level in Munich.

Chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is a fan and wants to keep him, while president Uli Hoeness is much more cautious.

“In the end we will have to decide because he’s a great player,” Hoeness said.

“But the coach must tell us what he wants.”
