After Aiden McGeady stepped up to the plate against Accrington once more, Sunderland boss Jack Ross admitted he has no problem relying on him to produce the goods.

It continued the Irishman’s remarkable run of scoring in every game that he has played against Stanley.

His latest goal came in a 3-1 win for the Black Cats, with the man in charge paying tribute to McGeady’s quality afterwards.

“We do rely on that individual bit of quality from Aiden at times,” Ross said, quoted by the Chronicle.

“But other teams in the league do the same with their own key players.

“That’s the type of finish he is capable of producing and we saw that consistently from him throughout last season.

“I’m happy with him and the team’s attacking play. We were clinical and ruthless in forward areas. I thought we were good.”

Sunderland’s sixth win of the campaign moves them up to fifth place in the League One standings.
