Jack Ross has outlined his case for some of the criticism of his Sunderland side going too far.

The Black Cats currently sit fifth in the League One standings after four wins, two draws and a defeat to start the season.

But a 3-0 reverse at Peterborough had many sticking the knife in again, much to the frustration of the Scot.

“We’ve had one defeat out of nine and six wins from the last seven,” Ross said in addressing the media ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Rotherham.

“It [criticism] is tiresome and is part of the problem at this club. We won 3-1 away from home and people criticise the performance.

“You always want to improve in what you do and we are no different here but I fail to see what will make some people satisfied.

“But to continue to be critical is just negative and almost like an anchor stopping the club moving forward.

“I take issue with it. I sit here often enough and I’m polite, pleasant and courteous but we’ve won an away game 3-1 and that should be it.

“It is absolute nonsense to think a team who wins promotion or a title plays well every weekend.”

Sunderland did also claim the scalp of Premier League outfit Burnley in the EFL Cup.
