At the Mundo Deportivo Gala awards, Ivan Rakitić had a chance to discuss his Barcelona future with the media.

Rakitić arrived from Sevilla in 2014 and is on Barcelona’s books until 2021. However, with the €75m acquisition of Frenkie de Jong, who is set to join in the summer, the Croatian’s future is in doubt.

“I want to be here, and if I can renew, be here for a few more years. I’m very happy here, everyone knows it, most of all the president. I don’t have to say anything else.”

When asked whether or not Frenkie de Jong would alter his role with the Blaugrana, Rakitić said that decision would be out of his hands.

“That is a good question for the coach or for the president. The people who know me know that I am only here to play.

“I approach it with calmness and a lot of desire. I am 30 years old, and I am in the best moment of my career. I want to enjoy football and Barça.“

Barcelona are back in action on Wednesday, as they try to make up a 2-0 deficit in their Copa del Rey second leg quarter-final clash with Sevilla.
