Islam Slimani is craving a return to Portuguese giants Sporting after a terrible time at Leicester City.
After posting an incredible record of 57 goals in 11 matches at Sporting, Slimani made a club-record £28m move to join the Foxes in summer 2016 on a five-year deal.
However, the Algerian was not able to replicate his form in England and found himself on loan at Newcastle less than 18 months later.
After failing to make an impact at St. James’ Park, Leicester sent him out to Fenerbahçe for the entirety of this past season, where he found the back of the net just once in 15 Süper Lig contests.
On Monday, Leicester’s Adrien Silva, who was Slimani’s team-mate at Sporting for three years, revealed that the 30-year-old is dying to go back to Lisbon.
“Whenever we talk, and we continue to maintain contact, he always expressed this joy every time he spoke about Portugal and Sporting,” Silva told Sport TV.
“He felt good there, everyone loved him very much. It’s a period he’s going to remember forever, it was a turning point in his life.
“I think so (Slimani would want to return), but it does not depend on him alone, nor on us players, but that is his own will.”
At Leicester, Slimani has only been able to contribute 13 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances.
