Nabil Fekir could be about to join Liverpool after he was inexplicably left out of Lyon’s squad this weekend.

Fekir came within a hair’s breadth of moving to Anfield in the summer but the move reportedly broke down due to complications with the French international’s medical.

Lyon were reportedly reluctant to sell anyway, despite receiving a bid understood to be in the region of €58m from the current Premier League leaders.

But the 25-year-old now has just 18 months left to run on his contract at the Groupama Stadium, and according to the Independent, Les Gones are now much more open to the idea of selling than they were in the summer.

Bruno Genesio’s side are up against Bourges in the Coupe de France this weekend and curiously, Fekir is not in the squad.

The captain is not thought to be injured and an interesting tweet from a Turkish journalist named Erbatur Ergenekon claimed on Friday that there’s a very good reason for his omission.

“Nabil Fekir, on his way to Liverpool,” wrote Ergenekon.

“If the Fekir transfer occurs, it can be the X factor that will preserve/open the difference in points.”

It remains to be seen how valid this claim is and after Xherdan Shaqiri arrived in the summer, the Reds aren’t exactly crying out for another forward player.

But with both Nathaniel Clyne and Dominic Solanke leaving to join Bournemouth on Friday, Jürgen Klopp may have some extra transfer funds to play with this month, so you never know.

Fekir has scored seven goals and assisted four others in 17 appearances for Lyon this season.
