Rafael Santos Borré nearly won the match for River Plate in the closing seconds, but he placed his header wide from just four yards out.

The two clubs played a back-and-forth battle the entire night, and both goalkeepers put on an absolute clinic.

River, however, looked like the slightly better of the two sides for most of the match.

However, it was Independiente who had the best chance of the match just 18 minutes in. Argentina international Maxi Meza cut inside and unleashed a beautiful curling shot from outside the area that hit the crossbar.

Just before the hour-mark, River’s Franco Armani made one of the saves of the tournament as he denied Emmanuel Gigliotti from close range.

Armani continued to make a strong case to be Argentina’s number one goalkeeper.
