Mohamed Salah is closing in on a Liverpool record.

With 37 goals in all competitions this season, the Egyptian needs just 10 more to equal Ian Rush’s club record of 47 in a single campaign.

Rush is more than happy to see his record go and is urging Salah to catch him.

“Even when I broke Roger Hunt’s record, he told me that records are there to be broken,” said the Liverpool legend.

“Of course you want to hold on to your records, but being connected with Liverpool now, you don’t mind them being broken because that means they’re doing well.”

He may be happy to see his record go (if it does) but Rush went on to say it doesn’t mean as much as the team enjoying some success.

Liverpool are trophyless since League Cup success in 2012 – their only trophy since winning the FA Cup in 2006.

“Maybe a difference is that when I scored 47 goals, we won three trophies,” Rush said.

“That’s what we’ve got to start doing now.

“It’s great having individual trophies, but in my [47-goal] season we won three trophies. I’m more pleased that we won three trophies than I was scoring 47 goals.”
