Just a little over two weeks ago, Héctor Moreno shocked the Mexican football world by leaving LaLiga side Real Sociedad to join Al-Gharafa of the Qatari Stars League.

The 31-year-old had battled back from a slew of injuries to help Mexico win this summer’s Gold Cup and was widely expected to continue on at Real Sociedad.

Although he opted for a giant payday, Chivas boss Tomás Boy admitted that the Mexican giants did their best to try and sign him.

“Yes, there was interest and the possibility of integrating with us was discussed with him (Héctor Moreno).

“Discussions brok down perhaps because he did not want to return to Mexico. The board was acting perfectly, the whole organisation did a great job.”

Moreno last played in Mexico back in 2007 with Pumas, his first professional club. The centre-back has earned 101 caps to date with El Tri.
