Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl admits that young players will always use the club as a stepping stone during their careers.

The Saints have earned a reputation over the last decade for developing young players, before selling them on for considerable profit.

Hasenhüttl has overseen a remarkable turnaround at St Mary’s since taking over in December and believes this model will benefit all parties.

“In the last few months, we showed that we can develop young players here,” he told reporters.

“We have a very good atmosphere and the club is famous for developing players that can later help us.

“If they become a very good player and goes somewhere else, then we have to accept this.

“I think that’s the way we want to go. That’s the Southampton way and I can guarantee that we keep going along this track.”

Southampton travel to Newcastle on Saturday, and a win would be crucial in their hopes of securing top-flight survival.
