Leicester City have confirmed that star youngster Harvey Barnes has signed a long-term contract extension.

The academy graduate has been with the Foxes since the age of nine and shows no signs of leaving any time soon.

Barnes penned a new deal which will keep him at the King Power Stadium until 2024, the Foxes announced on Friday.

The midfielder became an important part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans in the latter half of the season and netted a memorable first Premier League goal with an injury time equaliser away to West Ham in April.

In discussing his new deal, Barnes admitted that there was only going to be one answer when the club offered him an extension.

“I’m delighted. For me, the progression that I’ve had at the club, from joining at such an early age to the position I’m in now, is something I want to continue,” he told Leicester’s official website.

“So when a new contract was mentioned, it was a no brainer.

“There’s going to be a lot of work going in over pre-season and I think as a team we’re really strong at the minute so next year could be big for us.”

After spending the first half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, he returned in January to play an important part in the run-in.

Barnes went on to make 16 appearances – culminating in a call-up to the England squad for the summer’s Under-21 European Championship.
