Bayern Munich interim boss Hansi Flick has made no secret of the fact that he wants the job full-time – but does have some demands if he does take it.

There appears to be growing optimism from all sides that the man who replaced Niko Kovač earlier this season will keep the position going forward.

It seems he is quite bullish about those chances too and is even planning for the future, which includes being keen for a say in transfers.

“There are two things that I think are important, Flick said in an interview with Sport Bild.

“A club has to have a philosophy, what football it wants to play and what we stand for and a coach is brought in who is trusted to implement that.

“Then it is about the players who should compliment or strengthen the existing squad. In my view, the coach must have a veto right when it comes to new signings.”

However, the former Germany assistant boss was also keen to stress that he wasn’t looking for the kind of overall power in that regard – the kind that ended Jürgen Klinsmann’s time in charge of Hertha BSC.

“It is clear that [transfer] planning can’t be based solely on the wishes of the coach,” acknowledged Flick.

“Otherwise, he could bring in five players who are controversial and who his successor can’t use so it should come from the club.

“We have a scouting department who watch the squad at all times. We will look at players and decide together which way to go.

“It is important that you have the right eye in that regard – and also the opportunity to reject suggestions.”
