Former Southampton club-record signing Guido Carrillo admitted that the club ‘hurt’ him by delaying his loan move to Leganés until very late in the summer transfer window.

The Saints spent most of the window attempting to secure a permanent deal for the 28-year-old, who cost a whopping €22m just two-and-a-half years ago.

However, they were not able to find a buyer, which led to Carrillo going back on loan to Leganés for a second season in a row.

“It’s true, that hurt me, but it was merely a decision of the English team,” he told AS.

“I already had the decision to come to Leganés. I said my bit, but the Southampton leaders didn’t want to let me out until the last day.

“It’s still too soon (to think about a Southampton return). I’d rather be focused on the team.

“Everything that’s coming up I’d rather put off until later. It’s true that I have to go back to England.

“I have a year left. But we’ll see how it goes here. And how it goes on. I have no idea.

“I’ve felt very comfortable here. I’ve been treated like at home… but talking about it, there’s still a way to go and things to do. We’ll think about it later…”

Unfortunately, the Argentine has not fared much better in LaLiga this season, scoring just a single league goal in nearly 1,000 minutes of action for the second-worst club in Spain’s top-flight.
