Pep Guardiola has jokingly ‘congratulated’ rivals Liverpool on winning the Premier League after Manchester City’s loss at Norwich.
Guardiola suggested that Jurgen Klopp’s side have already won the league after City fell at Carrow Road, with Liverpool now five points clear after beating Newcastle.
But the Spaniard quickly reverted back to form – insisting there is still plenty to play for.
“We’re in September… we’re going to do that? Okay: congratulations, Liverpool, you are the champions,” he told reporters.
“We’ll recover, go to Ukraine, then we come back. Of course, we’ve dropped five points. Tottenham was a pity because we played very well.
“Against Norwich, it was in the important parts, in set pieces for example, that the players have to know exactly what to do.”
City face Shakhtar Donetsk in their Champions League group stage opener on Wednesday.
