After a weekend of football, we now know seven of this season’s eight FA Cup quarter-finalists.

A fifth round short on shocks still had plenty else going for it.

The Good

Fantastic Mr Foden

Despite his obvious talent, Phil Foden still isn’t being handed many opportunities at Manchester City. He has, though, featured heavily in the cups this season.

On Saturday he, once again, grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

One superb solo goal all but ended the tie. (See above for further details.)

A second superb solo goal did just that.

It’s really easy to sit here and say we want Foden to play more, it’s not so easy for Pep Guardiola to actually do it. Can he really put him in for Premier League games during the title race? And who would he replace – one of the Silvas? Kevin De Bruyne? It’s just unrealistic.

But, as long as the cup competitions are alive, we hope Foden keeps his spot. Watching him is so much fun and he’s only going to get better.

Hopefully this game sealed his place for the EFL Cup final against Chelsea.

Legend ends historic wait

Nobody has ever won the FA Cup as many times as Ashley Cole, who lifted the trophy seven times with Arsenal and Chelsea.

No other player has ever won it more than five times.

But the 38-year-old had never scored in the cup. Until Saturday.

Now at Derby County, the 38-year-old finally ended his wait for an FA Cup goal with a neat headed rebound.

Unfortunately for the Rams, it was just a consolation.

The Bad

Predictability

Looking for upsets? You’ve come to the wrong place.

There were no shocks, no surprises, no underdog victories this weekend.

Obviously there weren’t too many fairytale stories on the cards. Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are already out. Chelsea face Manchester United on Monday. But nothing?

QPR, Bristol City and Derby toiled against Premier League opposition but couldn’t produce the goods. Newport County gave City a game but the visitors’ class shone through.

Millwall just had a little too much for AFC Wimbledon. Then, on Sunday, Crystal Palace and Wolves were relatively untested by Doncaster Rovers and Bristol City.

What a shame.

Friday’s horrendously dull game

Did you waste your time on QPR v Watford too?

What a shocker of a game. Two shots on target in the entire 90 minutes.

No thank you.

The Ugly

Day’s nosebleed

Leroy Sané’s opener on Saturday smashed Newport’s dreams.

And goalkeeper Joe Day’s face.

That has got to hurt.
