Giovanni Reyna may be just 16 years old, but he was able to turn the head of one manager Lucien Favre during Dortmund’s American pre-season tour.
After Reyna nearly scored off the bench against Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders, he earned the start against Liverpool and provided the assist on Paco Alcacer’s opening goal.
Following Dortmund’s pair of victories, the gaffer was quick to praise Reyna, who only joined the club earlier in the month from NYCFC.
“Gio is already very good and he made a big impression,” Favre told reporters. “He doesn’t have any difficulties with the kind of football we want to play.”
Goalkeeper Roman Burki was also quick to praise the young American. “In terms of his physique, he’s already very well developed.
“You can’t tell that he’s only 16. He’s a very robust player and he knows what’s what.”
Dortmund will face Serie A outfit Udinese this Saturday in Austria.
