Club America forward Giovani dos Santos slammed his former club Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday, claiming their medical staff jeopardised his career.

The 30-year-old was bought out by the Galaxy back in March, which left dos Santos without a club until América signed him earlier this month.

Though he was the second-highest paid player in Major League Soccer, he did not trust his side’s medical team and sought advice elsewhere.

“Four months ago I started to train with the [Galaxy] and there was a strange pain,” Dos Santos told Televisa, in Spanish.

“They diagnosed it at the club and told me it was the knee; [Mexico and Club America kinesiologist Carlos] Pecanha said it was something else.

“They wanted to give me injections, but Pecanha was [also] advising me. Obviously, as an employee of the club, I have to do what the Galaxy medical staff tell me.”

Dos Santos received the injections but felt that taking any more of the Galaxy’s medical advice could have ended his career.

“From being a muscular injury, they wanted an operation, they were trying to guess what it was,” he said. “If I’d stayed at the Galaxy, we’d now be talking about retirement.”

Dos Santos is not expected to make his debut against Rayados on Saturday, with manager Miguel Herrera opting to wait until the player is ‘100 per cent’.
