Giovani dos Santos: Playing for América is a dream fulfilled | OneFootball

After much back and forth, it is finally official.

Giovani dos Santos is the newest member of América for the 2019 LigaMX season.

Dos Santos spoke to Andrés Vaca of Univisión Deportes about what it means to him to join the ranks of América, his boyhood club.

“It’s a dream fulfilled personally and for the family,” Dos Santos said in the interview. “I said it [before], if I returned to Mexico one day it would be with America.”

The timing is perfect, said dos Santos. “It’s the perfect moment because there’s a coach [Miguel Herrera] that I know very well and he knows me, so I’m really happy.”

The 30-year-old will join the Mexico City club his father, “Zizinho” Dos Santos, played for in the 1980s.

“It’s a new challenge, very special personally and for my family. I’m an America fan, my father played there, it was part of the family and it is a very special challenge.”

Dos Santos could make his official debut of Las Aguilas on July 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park when America takes on Tigres in the Campeon de Campeones playoff.
