According to latest reports, Gigi Buffon will continue to take the role as Azzurri’s No 1 until the end of Euro 2020.

Following Italy’s (shockingly unsuccessful) play-offs during the World Cup Qualifiers, Buffon had announced his retirement from the national team, but it seems like he may have changed his mind.

On Tuesday, Sky journalist Alessandro Alciato has reported that the Serie A legend will stay with the national team until the end of the Euro 2020 tournament.

Buffon had originally announced his retirement after failing in the 2018 World Cup play-offs.

But in an interview for the German Spiegel in December, he said: “I’m very likely to stop, but I’m still available for Juventus and the national team.”

Buffon’s contract with the Juventus expires this summer. “If Juventus thinks I’m still important, I’d like to keep playing, but we need to find the best solution for myself and the club, I do not want to be a problem,” he told La Repubblica in January.
