A fan of German club 1. FC Kaiserslautern has inspired supporters from all over Germany to send cornflakes to the country’s FA (DFB).

A late penalty decision cost Kaiserslautern two points in a recent third division match against Zwickau. Feeling aggrieved and claiming he had been elbowed, Kaiserslautern’s Jan Löhmannsröben launched an attack on the referee in a post-match interview.

“If that’s not a foul, kiss my ass really,” the midfielder began. “How can you not see that?

“If that’s a referee, I don’t know. He should go and count cornflakes.

“I’ve got no idea what the ref thought, I hope he can’t sleep for a week. He should go and referee in the Kreisliga (8th division and downwards) for a few weeks.”

The DFB have launched an investigation into Löhmannsröben’s comments and the player now faces a punishment.

Fans around the country clearly feel that’s unjust, explaining the peculiar protest. A Kaiserslautern fan took to Facebook, urging fellow fans to send cornflakes to the DFB head office.

And that’s exactly what has happened. The DFB and its president, Reinhard Grindel, can expect plenty of packages of the cereal on Wednesday after fans of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen and more joined the protest.
